SWS: Marcos, Duterte satisfaction ratings drop in latest poll
The net satisfaction ratings of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte both decreased by 13 and six points, respectively, during the fourth quarter of 2024, based on the latest survey results from the Social Weather Stations (SWS).
The results of the non-commissioned survey, which were released on Wednesday, showed that Marcos’ net satisfaction rating fell in all areas across the country except for Balance Luzon.
His net satisfaction rating was “moderate” at +19 as of December 2024—a decline by 13 points from a “good” +32 in September 2024.
SWS said this means the number of adult Filipinos satisfied with Marcos’ performance as President went down from 58% to 51%, while the gross dissatisfaction rose from 26% to 32%. The undecided slightly changed from 15% to 16%.
By area, his net satisfaction rating specifically dropped by 34 points from +16 to -18 in Mindanao; 16 points from +36 to +20 in Metro Manila; and 13 points from +31 to +18 in Visayas.
His satisfaction rating hardly changed from +39 to +38 in Balance Luzon.
Meanwhile, Duterte’s net satisfaction rating also dipped in all areas in the country except the Visayas, from +27 in September to +21 in December—both of which were considered “moderate.”
Her net satisfaction rating stayed highest in Mindanao at a “very good” +67, but lower than the “excellent” +71 in September.
The net satisfaction with Duterte also decreased by 18 points from +15 to -3 in Metro Manila; and 10 points from +11 to +1 in Balance Luzon. However, it rose by 9 points in the Visayas from +23 to +32.
The adult Filipinos satisfied with Duterte’s performance as Vice President decreased from 57% to 52%, and those dissatisfied climbed a bit from 30% to 31%. The undecided likewise increased from 13% to 16%.
Other officials
Aside from the two highest government officials, the net satisfaction ratings of Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero, Speaker Martin Romualdez, and Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo also all declined in the fourth quarter of 2024.
SWS’ latest poll revealed that Escudero's net satisfaction went down from +47 in September to +42 in December. Those who were satisfied by his performance decreased from 64% to 61%, while those who were dissatisfied slightly increased from 18% to 19%.
Meanwhile, Romualdez’ net satisfaction rating also dropped considerably from a “moderate” +20 to a “neutral” +9.
It fell by 28 points from +13 to -15 in Mindanao; 9 points from +12 to +3 in Metro Manila; and 7 points from +25 to +18 in Balance Luzon, but stayed “moderate” at +23 in the Visayas.
Gesmundo, on the other hand, had a net satisfaction rating of +14 in December, lower by nine points than the +23 in September. Those satisfied by his performance dipped from 44% to 38%, and the dissatisfied became more from 21% to 24%.
The SWS survey was conducted from December 12 to 18, 2024, using face-to-face interviews of 2,160 adults nationwide.
It has a ±2% sampling error margins for national percentages, ±3% in Balance Luzon, and ±5% each for Metro Manila, the Visayas, and Mindanao.—RF, GMA Integrated News
