Negros Oriental under state of calamity due to Kanlaon Volcano eruption

The province of Negros Oriental has declared a state of calamity due to the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano last month.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved Resolution No. 1329 in a special session on December 27, 2024, weeks after the explosive eruption of the volcano.

On Wednesday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported the Kanlaon Volcano emitted ash anew, warning those in Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental  to take precautions against possible ashfall.

The first ash emission occurred at 1:06 a.m, and the second one at 6:25 a.m.

"Maging Alerto, mga lalawigan ng #NegrosOccidental at #NegrosOriental! NDRRMC (01:30AM, 08Jan25)Lahat ay pinag-iingat sa maaaring pagpatak ng abo na ibinuga ng Bulkang Kanlaon dakong 01:06 ng madaling araw," it said in a post on X.

Kanlaon Volcano had an explosive eruption on December 9, prompting PHIVOLCS to raise the Alert Level from 2 to 3.

It also erupted on June 3, emitting 5,000-meter tall plumes.

Earlier, the Canlaon City and Vallehermoso town were placed under a state of calamity due to the eruption. —Sundy Locus/AOL, GMA Integrated News
