Road closures around Quirino Grandstand for INC peace rally on Jan. 13
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday announced the closure of roads near Quirino Grandstand for Iglesia Ni Cristo's (INC) National Rally for Peace on January 13.
In a briefing, MMDA Traffic Operations Officer Manny Miro announced the closure of the following roads around Rizal Park area:
- Katigbak Drive
- South Drive
- Roxas Boulevard (from U.N. Avenue to P. Burgos)
- TM Kalaw
- Bonifacio Drive (from P. Burgos to Anda Circle)
- Maria Orosa
Miro advised road users to use alternate routes like U.N. Avenue and Quirino Avenue amid the closure of several thoroughfares.
The MMDA also urged trucks to take the Quirino Ave-Lacson-Capulong-R10 route during the road closure.
According to Miro, several roads in the vicinity will also be used as designated parking areas for the event.
The MMDA is expecting up to 1 million attendees in the January 13 event.
MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said they will allow street parking on that day but only one lane can be used.
"Kung three lanes po 'yang kalsada or two lanes, dapat isa lang ang sasakupin. Hindi po pwedeng sakupin ang buong kalsada na wala nang ibang makakadaan. Anyone na magba-violate po...ay iisyuhan po natin ng ticket. Kung walang driver, ipapa-tow dahil hindi pwedeng barahan 'yung kalsada," he said, explaining that clear roads are needed for emergency situations.
(If the road has two or three lanes, only one lane should be used for parking. They shouldn't occupy the entire road to the point that no other vehicle can pass through. Anyone who will violate this will be issued a ticket. If the driver is not around, we will tow the vehicle because they should not block the road.)
Around 1,300 MMDA personnel will be deployed for the event, Artes said.
Last December 4, the religious group announced that they will hold a rally where they will express support for President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s stance against impeachment moves.
To recall, Marcos Jr. earlier said he is not supportive of any impeachment plan against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Duterte is currently facing three impeachment complaints.
The Vice President earlier welcomed the filing of impeachment complaints against her. She said her critics have been saying that they will be filing the complaint against her since 2023.
“So, okay din 'yung impeachment case dahil ako lang ang tinitira doon, ako lang iniimbestigahan noon. Ako lang ang inaatake ng impeachment case. Hindi na kasali ang nga kasamahan ko sa OVP and mga dati kong kasama sa DepEd. Masagot na ng final kung ano 'yung mga inaakusa nila sa akin,” Duterte said.
(So, it’s okay they filed an impeachment case since I’ll only be the one who's being attacked. I’ll only be the one who's being investigated. I’ll only be the one who is being attacked in the impeachment case. My staff in the Office of the Vice President and Department of Education will no longer be involved. I can finally answer what they are accusing me of.) —AOL, GMA Integrated News
