CAAP earmarks P12.4B for civil works, system upgrades in 2025

CAAP earmarks P12.4B for civil works, system upgrades in 2025

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on Thursday announced the P12.4 billion worth of investments for improvements of airports and air systems upgrades for this year.

In a news release, CAAP said it is setting aside P10.6 billion for civil works and P1.8 billion for equipment and systems upgrades to be implemented throughout 2025.

The CAAP commercially operates over 40 airports all over the country. At the same time, it prescribes rules and regulations and enforces laws governing air transportation.

The agency said its civil works and system upgrades initiative is aligned with its mission to modernize aviation infrastructure and strengthen the country’s global competitiveness in the aviation sector.

Key priorities for 2025 include the night-rating upgrades of Cauayan, Dipolog, and Pagadian airports, allowing safe and efficient night operations to address increasing air traffic demands.

Additionally, Bukidnon Airport is on track to begin operations for general aviation this year, creating a vital gateway for local travel and trade in the region, according to CAAP.

“Our thrust is to really make the Philippine sky safe. We do not want any untoward accidents and incidents, as much as possible,” said CAAP director general Manuel Antonio Tamayo.

CAAP said its modernization efforts are projected to boost tourism and trade, enhance airport operations, and improve passenger experiences.

In the long term, the agency said its initiatives aim to support economic growth by fostering stronger connectivity across the archipelago.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
