2 Chinese nabbed for allegedly kidnapping fellow citizens
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested two Chinese men for allegedly kidnapping fellow citizens and forcing them to work in a purported scam hub.
In Marisol Abduraman’s exclusive report on “24 Oras” on Wednesday, the CIDG nabbed the two Chinese in a house inside a private subdivision in General Trias, Cavite.
CIDG launched an entrapment operation after the boyfriend of one of the victims reported that they were asked to give P450,000 in exchange for their freedom.
The two victims, who were siblings, were forced to work in alleged scamming activities, including love scams, and reach a $50,000 quota.
CIDG spokesperson Police Lieutenant Colonel Imelda Reyes said since the victims were the only ones working there, they could not reach the quota, so the suspects asked for the ransom.
She added that the suspects were former Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) employees who established their alleged scam hub.
The CIDG also recovered the suspects’ gun and bullets during the operation.
The suspects underwent inquest proceedings and will be facing charges of kidnapping, serious illegal detention, and violation of comprehensive firearms and ammunition.
The CIDG said it would continue its investigation as there might be other people involved. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF, GMA Integrated News
