Sofronio Vasquez pays courtesy call on Marcos

The Voice USA champion Sofronio Vasquez on Wednesday paid courtesy call on President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. at the Malacañang Palace.

Also present during the courtesy call were First Lady Louise ''Liza'' Araneta-Marcos and Irene Marcos, the President's sister, as well as other government officials.

Marcos expressed how proud he was of Sofronio.

''Dito parang kaunti na lang gawin naming national holiday 'yung pagkapanalo mo eh... Happy ang lahat ng Pinoy... kasi parang lahat nagsasabi ang galing ng Pinoy, sa music... pero ito tunay na ito, recognized,'' Marcos said.

Sofronio also serenaded the First Couple and the rest of the audience during the courtesy call with The Beatles song, ''Imagine,'' and his winning song, ''A Million Dreams.''

Sofronio said he learned that Marcos is a fan of The Beatles.

It can be noticed that the First Couple had become emotional while Sofronio was performing for them.

In an interview, Sofronio said he felt how genuine the President was when he was singing. He was also thankful because he was able to meet Marcos despite the latter's tight schedule.

''Hindi matatanggal sa feeling mo 'yung pagkagalak ba in Tagalog na kumakanta ka sa harap ng Presidente, kumbaga close in, kasi siyempre sila 'yung namumuno eh. Just being with him na alam kong napakabusy and nagsqueeze kami ng oras and he is so genuine about it,'' Sofronio said.

Sofronio made history as the first Asian and first Filipino to win "The Voice USA." He was part of Team Michael Buble.

In the finals, Sofronio delivered two stunning performances, captivating the audience with his rendition of "Unstoppable" by Sia and "A Million Dreams" from "The Greatest Showman."—AOL, GMA Integrated News
