BI to probe reports that Edgar Matobato left PH

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) will investigate reports that confessed hitman Edgar Matobato has already left the Philippines, Immigration spokesperson Dana Sandoval said Wednesday.

“We will be conducting an investigation into the information stated in the article,” Sandoval told reporters when asked to confirm if Matobato has left the country.

The New York Times recently reported that Matobato had fled the Philippines.

On Tuesday, Malacañang said it had no information on Matobato’s whereabouts, nor any control over his actions, including whether he might testify in another forum.

Matobato, who claims to have been a member of the vigilante Davao Death Squad, alleged that he carried out multiple killings on orders from then-Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

He also testified during a Senate investigation into extrajudicial killings linked to the Duterte administration's 2016 war on drugs, claiming that the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force was responsible for several killings in Davao City.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
