DepEd trains English, Science, Math teachers to boost learning outcomes

The Department of Education (DepEd) has started training teachers of English, Science, and Math (ESM) subjects to help them make better learning sessions for junior high school students so they can improve their academic performance.

Based on DepEd Memorandum No. 2 s. 2025, learning sessions will also be provided for learners and their parents to support school activities.

The teaching training will be held starting January 3 to January 15, while the learning activities will be from January 16 to March 10.

The series of activities, in partnership with Khan Academy and Frontlearners, will begin with the preparation of regional ESM supervisors to create their classes on the Khan Academy platform, where ESM teachers will create their respective accounts to join the session.

This will be followed by an exam on the platform for all ESM teachers in each region on January 7.

After the training and exam of teachers in their respective subject areas, school division superintendents will identify teacher-trainers per subject who will serve as learning sessions and socio-emotional learning (SEL) facilitators for learners in their respective divisions.

Starting January 10, DepEd’s Curriculum and Teaching Strand will circulate the SEL guides to the field offices. These materials will be used in the training of ESM teacher-trainers on January 13-15.

Meanwhile, the learning sessions for learners will include orientation on the use of the DepEd Learning Management System, Khan Academy, and Frontlearners platforms, assessment activities, and coaching and socio-emotional learning sessions.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara said he believes that these activities will help improve the learners’ performance in English, Science, and Math to meet international standards.

“We are equipping our teachers with cutting-edge tools and strategies to provide world-class instruction in English, Science, and Math. By empowering our educators, we are not only enhancing classroom learning but also preparing our learners to excel academically and meet the challenges of an ever-evolving world,” Angara said in a statement. —RF, GMA Integrated News
