NBI arrest arrests 6 over sale of gov’t position

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Friday announced the arrest of six individuals for selling government positions, including one who claimed that the positions were arranged by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.

According to the NBI, its agents arrested the six individuals for syndicate estafa and violation of Article 177 (usurpation of authority or official functions) of the Revised Penal Code during an entrapment operation at the Manila Hotel.

“Subjects were arrested after they received the marked money and misrepresented themselves as employees of the Office of the President (OP),” the NBI said.

“Certification issued by the OP confirmed that the above-mentioned Subjects are not their employees nor in any way connected with the Palace,” it added.

The operation came after a complaint was filed before the Office of the Special Task Force and the Cybercrime Division on Thursday, claiming that a certain Diane offered the complainant a seat as a member of the Bangsamoro Parliament for P8 million.

The complainant played along and the two later came to an agreement for the appointment of the complainant’s son and nephew in the parliament for P15 million.

Diane also assured the complainant that the seats were arranged by the first lady.

She said that successful appointees will take their oath by today, January 3.

The NBI said that it conducted the operation after a meeting was set between the complainant and the group on January 2, Thursday at the Manila Hotel. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
