Palace: Feast of Jesus Nazareno, January 9, 2025, a non-working day in Manila
Malacañang on Friday announced that Thursday, January 9 will be a special non-working holiday in the City of Manila in observance of the Feast of Jesus Nazareno.
“In order to ensure orderly procession of devotees and to facilitate the flow of traffic, the City of Manila requests that Thursday, 09 January 2025 be declared a special (non-working) holiday,” according to Proclamation No. 766 signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on authority of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The annual feast kicked off last December 31 with a Walk of Thanksgiving on the streets around Quiapo Church or the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno.
Millions of devotees flock to Quiapo Church every January 9 to honor the Jesus Nazareno in hopes of getting their prayers answered or receiving miracles.
Among the highlights of the feast is the Traslacion, or the procession of the 400-year-old black image of Jesus Nazareno from Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church.
At least 13,000 uniformed personnel, including 500 cops from the Manila Police District, will be deployed in the vicinity of Quiapo Church on the feast day. —NB/KG, GMA Integrated News
