PNP: 18 indiscriminate firing cases reported ahead of New Year 2025

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday said it has monitored 18 indiscriminate firing incidents ahead of New Year 2025.

In an update, the PNP said four people were reported injured in these incidents, and 13 persons have been arrested for indiscriminate discharge of firearms.

Most of the arrests were reported in Calabarzon with seven, followed by Northern Mindanao with two, and Metro Manila, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, and Zamboanga Peninsula with one each.

The arrested persons include personnel of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) in Zamboanga Peninsula and PNP personnel in Calabarzon.

The PNP also reported the confiscation of nine firearms.

Four incidents of stray bullets have been monitored, including three in Metro Manila and one in Zamboanga Peninsula.

The PNP on Sunday said its units nationwide are on heightened alert to ensure public safety and response to emergencies amid the New Year celebration.

“We have mobilized our police units to maintain peace and order during New Year celebrations and ensure the safety of travelers heading home,” PNP chief Police General Rommel Marbil said.

“Coordination with government agencies and local traffic management offices is key to managing the movement of people and vehicles effectively during this busy season,” he added. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
