Marcos honors Jimmy Carter: A humanitarian who practiced what he preached

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Monday paid tribute to former United States President Jimmy Carter, who recently passed away, lauding him as a humanitarian who practiced what he preached.

“Houses for the homeless and human rights for the oppressed. Guided by his faith, he was a servant leader who pursued peace in war-torn regions and prosperity in societies plagued by poverty,” Marcos said in his statement.

The president highlighted Carter's dedication to universal values cherished globally, including by Filipinos, as the foundation for creating a kinder and more equitable society.

Marcos described Carter as "a model of the power to do good, whether in public office or out of it, motivated not by politics or personal gain but by a genuine love for humanity."

Jimmy Carter, a Democrat, served as the 39th President of the United States from January 1977 to January 1981 after defeating Republican incumbent Gerald Ford in the 1976 election.

He was swept from office four years later in an electoral landslide as voters embraced Republican challenger Ronald Reagan, the former actor and California governor. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
