Comelec chief touts zero pending local nuisance cases


Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairperson George Garcia said the poll body has resolved all pending local nuisance cases under the division and en banc. 

"Wala na din po kami local nuisance case na pending sa division and en banc.  A first for the Commission," he said. 

The elections will be held in May 2025.

The Comelec en banc on Friday upheld its decision to cancel the candidacy of several individuals for the May 2025 polls. 

In separate resolutions, the poll body announced the cancellation of the candidacies of the bets.

Earlier, the Comelec en banc announced that it junked the motion for reconsideration (MR) which sought to block detained religious leader Apollo Quiboloy’s senatorial bid in Eleksyon 2025 “due to lack of merit.”

In a resolution released Friday, the Comelec en banc denied the MR filed by senatorial aspirant and Workers and Peasants’ Party’s Sonny Matula which sought to overturn the decision of Comelec First Division allowing Quiboloy to run for the Senate.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
