Firecracker prices in Bocaue increase ahead of New Year 2025 revelry
Prices of some firecrackers have increased and more people flocked to stores in Bocaue, Bulacan ahead of the celebrations for New Year 2025.
According to a report of Super Radyo dzBB’s Allan Gatus on Unang Balita, the prices of the following firecrackers have increased:
- kwitis - from P6 to P8-P10 per piece
- lusis (ordinary) - from P30 to P40 per 10 pieces
- lusis (five colors) - from P50 to P60 per 10 pieces
- sawa - up to P1,000 per piece
- whistle bomb - up to P10 per 10 pieces
- bawang - up to P7 per piece
Prices of fireworks, on the other hand, have remained the same so far.
Customers kept on arriving at the Bocaue stores even at night. Some of them were buying firecrackers in bulk, the report said.
Meanwhile, a total of 10 people have been arrested so far for selling illegal firecrackers online, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP) - Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) on Thursday.
From December 6 to 26, the ACG said it has conducted eight operations that resulted in the confiscation of illegal firecrackers worth a total of P76,400.
The Department of Health (DOH) has monitored a total of 69 incidents of firecracker-related injuries since December 22.
Of the total cases, 59 or 86% involved firecrackers that are illegal, particularly "boga" or an improvised cannon made from large PVC pipes and fueled by denatured alcohol.
A total of 32 fire incidents caused by firecrackers and fireworks have been reported since January this year, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said.—Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA Integrated News
