17 firecracker-related injuries recorded a week before New Year
Seventeen firecracker-related injuries have been recorded so far a week before the New Year revelries, the Department of Health said Monday.
The injuries were recorded from December 22 to 23 in 62 sentinel hospitals nationwide.
Of the 17 injuries, 16 are male patients aged 7 to 37 years old. This is higher compared to the six cases recorded in the same period last year.
The DOH reminded the public to avoid using any fireworks to celebrate the holidays. Instead the public can use drums, horns, and other alternative noise makers.
Children are also prohibited from using firecrackers.
For emergencies, the public can call the National Emergency Hotline 911 or the DOH’s 1555.
The Philippine National Police earlier reminded the public not to light firecrackers in residential areas in welcoming the year 2025. It also advised everyone to avoid prohibited firecrackers such as watusi, piccolo, and over 20 others.—Vince Angelo Ferreras/AOL, GMA Integrated News
