Marcos: AFP undergoing upgrades amid cybersecurity threats

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. pledged on Friday to equip the military with the necessary tools to address national security challenges,  including the growing cybersecurity threats.

Speaking at the  89th anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Marcos highlighted the Self-Reliant Defense Posture Revitalization Program,  aimed at reducing reliance on foreign suppliers and empowering the AFP  to enhance its capabilities.

“Modernization is not simply about acquiring advanced equipment; it is about transforming the way we think, act, and operate as a unified force. To enhance our capabilities and preparedness, the country is now harnessing the latest technologies,  reinforcing strategies, and enhancing the skills of every soldier,  sailor, and airman,” Marcos said.

He emphasized that the AFP must adapt to modern threats, which are increasingly complex and often invisible.

“The threats we face today are no longer confined to our shores or traditional battlefields. The surge in cybersecurity threats, if unchallenged and unaddressed, will jeopardize our national security.  Meanwhile, geopolitical developments and tensions continue to test our sovereignty and resolve,” he said.

Marcos commended the AFP for its ability to evolve and persevere despite challenges.

“You have become an agile and responsive force, attuned to the shifting demands of our security landscape. This is no small feat. As we honor your accomplishments, we must also prepare for the challenges ahead. The modern age demands that we face these evolving threats head-on,” he added. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
