Former UP president Francisco 'Dodong' Nemenzo passes away at 89
Political scientist Francisco "Dodong" Nemenzo, who served as the 18th president of the University of the Philippines (UP), has died at age 89, his family announced Thursday.
In a Facebook post, Nemenzo's grandson Miguel Hernandez said the former UP president passed away on Thursday, December 19.
Hernandez cited his grandfather's contributions, which include service in the country's premier state university, "which left an indelible mark on the institution."
Nemenzo is survived by feminist and anti-poverty activist Ana Maria "Princess" Nemenzo, his wife of 65 years; and their children and spouses, former UP Diliman chancellor Dr. Fidel Nemenzo and Dr. Marivic Raquiza; Dr. Leonid Nemenzo and Ruvelyn Lim Nemenzo; and Lian Nemenzo-Hernandez and environmental activist Von Hernandez; their six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and his youngest sister, Gemma Nemenzo-Ver.
"Dodong Nemenzo's life was a testament to the power of ideals and conviction. His contributions to academia and society will be remembered and celebrated by many," the post read.
The Nemenzo family will announce the memorial service schedule and venue. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
