AFP delivers Noche Buena packages to troops celebrating Christmas in WPS

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) delivered Noche Buena packages to troops stationed in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) during its sustainment mission from December 3 to 14.

The Western Command spearheaded the efforts to spread holiday cheer and boost morale by transporting essential life support and sustainment provisions to Filipino troops deployed in remote outposts of the disputed waters.

Aside from the regular supplies, military personnel assigned to the BRP Sierra Madre at Ayungin Shoal also received Noche Buena packages and a whole lechon (roast pig) so they could celebrate Christmas away from their homes.

“As part of the AFP's 89th Founding Anniversary, the mission also delivered Christmas packages to boost the morale of sailors and marines deployed in the WPS during the holiday season,” AFP said in a statement.

“The AFP remains steadfast in carrying out its mandate in full accordance with international law and the rules-based international order,” said AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr.

“Likewise, we will not forget the sacrifices of our troops deployed in these remote stations, far from their families, this Christmas season. They are our inspiration," he added.

The Philippine Navy earlier said it would continue conducting patrols in the WPS but vowed not to react to the continuing aggressive actions of China. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
