UP Law grad tops 2024 Bar exams


A law graduate of the University of the Philippines (UP) has topped the 2024 Bar examinations, the Supreme Court announced Friday.

Kyle Christian Tutor of the UP College of Law earned the top spot with an overall rating of 85.7700%. He was followed by Maria Christina Santos of the Ateneo de Manila University with 85.5400%, and Gerald Catayong Roxas of the Angeles University Foundation School of Law with 84.3550%.

This year's passing rate is 37.84%, while the passing grade was set at 74%.

A total of 3,962 examinees passed this year, higher than 2023's tally of 3,812.

Meanwhile, 10,490 out of 10,504 applicants completed all three days of the 2024 Bar examinations, held on September 8, 11, and 15.

The University of the Philippines dominated the Top 10, with four of its graduates making the cut.

They were followed by Ateneo de Manila University with two, and one each from Angeles University Foundation, University of Mindanao, Western Mindanao State University, and San Beda University.

The Top 10 list for the 2024 Bar examinations is as follows:

The Office of the Bar Confidant has released its list of 2024 topnotchers.

 

In the Top 20, the state university shared the lead with Ateneo de Manila with six topnotchers each.

University of Santo Tomas came in third with two, while Angeles University Foundation, University of Mindanao, Western Mindanao State University, San Beda University, University of San Carlos, and Jose Rizal Memorial State University all had one each.

The top five law schools with more than 100 first-time candidates are the following:

  1. Ateneo de Manila University — 159 passers out of 165 (96.36%)
  2. University of the Philippines — 202 passers out of 217 (93.09%)
  3. San Beda University — 119 passers out of 130 (91.54%)
  4. University of Santo Tomas-Manila — 118 passers out of 133 (88.72%)
  5. University of San Carlos — 94 passers out of 110 (85.45%)

The following are the top law schools with 51 to 100 first-time takers:

  1. Polytechnic University of the Philippines — 54 passers out of 61 (88.52%)
  2. University of Cebu — 45 passers out of 51 (88.24)
  3. De La Salle University-Manila — 56 passers out of 64 (87.50%)
  4. Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila — 45 passers out of 53 (84.91%)
  5. Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan — 55 passers out of 80 (68.75%)

Meanwhile, a priest in Sorsogon was among this year's successful examinees.
