Lower passing grade
Meanwhile, Bar chairpreson Associate Justice Mario Lopez announced that justices voted unanimously to lower the passing grade to 74%.
“Instead of 75, the good justices headed by the Chief Justice [Alexander Gesmundo] voted unanimously to adopt the grade of 74 as a passing grade,” Lopez said.
“Hence, effectively, because of the 74% passing grade, the percentage of passing is not 37.84% for a total of 3,962 new lawyers,” he added.
Lopez said that if the grade was not lowered, the passing rate would be 30% instead of 37.84%.
He said that around 900 individuals passed the exams due to the change.
Leak
Meanwhile, when asked about the supposed leak of Bar results before the SC announcement earlier, Lopez said the situation was immediately addressed.
"Mayroon pala bagong app, ‘yung Barista. Individual lang naman ‘yun, not for public consumption, but this is individual for those who took the Bar," he said.
(The Barista is a new app for individuals who took the Bar. It's not for public consumption.)
"And immediately when we learned it, immediately, that app was immediately, automatically… disengaged. So only few were able to see. 'Yun naman ay pass or fail lang naman, eh. Walang grade (That only provides pass of fail results. No grades)," he added.
He said through the application, individual examinees may check their results.
A total of 10,490 out of 10,504 applicants completed all three days of the 2024 Bar Examinations, the SC said earlier.
