Sara Duterte: No regrets over kill remark vs Marcos

Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday said she does not regret saying that she ordered someone to kill President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. if she herself gets killed.

"Buti na alam nila na 'pag namatay ako, I will not die in vain," Duterte said in a press conference.

(If I die, it's better that they know that I will not die in vain.)

The Vice President was referring to her controversial statement that she already hired someone to kill Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, should an alleged plot against her succeed.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has launched a probe into Duterte's remarks, already issuing a second subpoena for her to appear before its office on Wednesday, December 11.

However, Duterte did not face the NBI anew and was instead represented by her lawyer Paul Lim, who gave the bureau a letter on her non-appearance and denial.

Doesn't expect fairness

The Vice President said that she does not expect fairness in the NBI investigation.

“I don’t think magiging patas ang imbestigasyon na ito dahil kung nakita niyo naman ‘yung mensahe ng Pangulo, na sinabi niya…in gist, ganitong mga kriminal na gawain ay hindi ko palalampasin. So makita na natin the pronouncements of the President, meron nang bias doon,” she said.

(I don't think this investigation will be fair because if you saw the President's message, he said in gist that he will not ignore such criminal activities. So we could see in that pronouncement of the President that there is already bias.)

She was referring to Marcos' statement in late November, wherein he vowed to block "criminal attempts" following the alleged threat of Duterte to him and his family.

Duterte also said she and her lawyers believe that cases would still be filed against her by law enforcement agencies whether or not she attends the NBI probe.

"The lawyers and I believe that cases will be filed. So kahit pang sabihin nila na may investigation, sa simula pa lang nag-desisyon na sila na mag-file sila ng cases," she added.

(Even if they say that there would be an investigation, from the very beginning, they have already decided to file cases against me.)

In the House of Representatives, two impeachment complaints have been filed against her.

The first of which was submitted by advocacy groups on the grounds of alleged corruption, bribery, betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes. This complaint was endorsed by Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña.

The second impeachment complaint was filed by more than 70 representatives from various sectors, anchored on alleged betrayal of public trust in connection with alleged misuse of confidential funds. It was endorsed by the progressive Makabayan bloc. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
