300 female inmates receive legal, medical aid —DOJ

More than 300 female persons deprived of liberty (PDL) detained at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) received legal and medical assistance last week, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Monday.

According to the DOJ, most of the PDLs are senior citizens and sickly inmates.

"Real justice is never confined within the boundaries of law, instead, it is always extended with utmost compassion until it touches the hearts of people especially those who have less in life,” Justice Secretary Jesus Crisipin Remulla said in a statement.

Remulla assured PDLs that the government is not remiss in protecting and safeguarding their rights.

“Accept this simple token of my appreciation for your perseverance. I wish all of you a Merry and meaningful Christmas," he said.

The DOJ Action Center led the activity last Friday in coordination with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Rizal-San Juan-Mandaluyong Chapter, the Legal Aid Society of the Philippines, and volunteer paralegals of the Philippine Law School.
