AFP probing 2 officers who allegedly received confi funds from OVP, DepEd
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said Tuesday it is conducting an investigation to determine the possible administrative liability of two active military officers who allegedly received substantial portions of the confidential funds from offices held by Vice President Sara Duterte.
AFP spokesperson Colonel Francel Padilla was referring to Colonels Dennis Nolasco and Raymund Dante Lachica of the Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG).
“This is an ongoing investigation. In our part for the Armed Forces of the Philippines, we're looking at the merits of the case on kung ano po ang pwede naming makita do’n (on whatever we find there) in terms of administrative issues that we have to address,” she said at a press conference.
“And kung meron man (And if there are), that's when we will be acting accordingly,” she added.
In a previous House hearing, the disbursement officers from the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and Department of Education (DepEd) said that millions of confidential funds were transferred to the two military officers.
Duterte had maintained that she did not misuse OVP funds and that the congressional inquiry is just a test case for her impeachment.
On Monday, advocacy groups officially filed the first impeachment complaint against Duterte and was endorsed by Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña in the House of Representatives.
The complaint stemmed from the Vice President’s alleged culpable violations of the Constitution, graft and corruption, bribery, betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes.
She is set to face a second impeachment complaint which will be filed on Wednesday.
Duterte has yet to respond to the impeachment moves against her.
