DOJ launches 'priority passes' to victims for legal assistance
The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday launched “priority passes” which seeks to help female victims of violence and harassment get access to legal assistance in select regions as it holds the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW).
According to the DOJ, the priority passes seek to prioritize VAW victims in accessing legal assistance and counseling in all DOJ Action Centers (DOJAC) in the National Capital Region, Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, the Bicol Region, Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and the Davao Region.
“It has always been a challenge for victims to report or file cases against their abusers because of fear as well as lack of knowledge and familiarity about the legal process,” Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said in a statement.
“But we are here today until the end of the campaign with a Priority Pass to remind victims that you are not alone, the DOJ is here to help you. Do not be afraid to fight for your rights," he added.
Aside from this, the DOJAC will also provide mediation services for family conflicts and referral services to other government bodies.
The DOJ said individuals with VAW concerns and complaints may walk-in in any DOJAC office nationwide or reach out through the dojac@doj.gov.ph; (02)8521-2930 or to the official DOJ Action Center Facebook page. — Joahna Lei Casilao/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
