Marcos honors Santanina Rasul's 'historic' contributions to PH
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Tuesday expressed condolences on the demise of first Muslim woman senator Santanina Tilla Rasul as he honored the latter's contributions to the country through her legislative endeavors.
Marcos said Rasul's passing was a loss deeply felt not only by her family but by the entire Filipino nation.
''Her contributions were not just historic - they were transformative. She championed the rights of marginalized communities, opened doors for women in the military, and inspired countless Filipinos, especially those from underrepresented sectors, to believe in their potential,'' he said.
Marcos also described Rasul as a woman of wisdom, grace, and unshakeable integrity.
''Her impact was felt not only within the halls of government, but in the lives of the people she so selflessly served,'' he said.
Rasul passed away on November 28.
She served as a senator from 1987 to 1992 and from 1992 to 1995, according to the Senate website.
During her tenure in the Senate, Rasul authored eight laws as chairperson of the Committee on Civil Service and Government Recognition and the Committee on Women and Family Relations.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
