LTFRB opens PUV special permit application for 2024 holiday travel

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has opened application for special permits for public utility vehicles (PUVs) in preparation for the influx of commuters within and outside Metro Manila during the holiday season.

LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Teofilo Guadiz III said Sunday the application for the special permits for Transport Network Vehicle Services (TNVS) started last week. For other PUVs, the application will be opened on December 15.

"Iyong special permits ng TNVS, it opened last week, we have given 5,000 new units for the TNVS," the LTFRB head said in press statement.

"For the special permit for Christmas, we will start opening the application on December 15 and then the special permit would be from December 20, 2024 to January 4, 2025," Guadiz added.

Meanwhile, the application for special permits for public utility buses (PUBs) started on November 18 and ended on November 29. The special permit will be valid from December 23, 2024 to January 3, 2025

Guadiz said the move is consistent with LTFRB's mandate to ensure efficient and safe public transportation for Filipino passengers.

"Like the usual practice, we are opening slots for special permits to ensure that there are ample PUVs that would cater to our riding public during the holidays," the LTFRB chief added.

Guadiz urged commuters to plan their travels ahead and remain vigilant to ensure a safe and smooth journey.

“Please patronize legitimate public transportation, follow safety protocols, and report any overcharging, overloading, or other violations through our official hotlines and channels,” he said.

He added the LTFRB is working closely with operators and enforcers to manage the expected increase in passengers during the holidays.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
