Marcos declares October as National Agriculture and Fisheries Extension Services Month
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared the month of October as “National Agriculture and Fisheries Extension Services Month,” which seeks to promote nationwide awareness of the role of Extension Services in the development of the Agriculture and Fisheries (AF) sector.
Signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Proclamation No. 753 aims to expedite the development and delivery of AF Extension Services and ensure the support of stakeholders in improving the services.
It also honors the contribution of agricultural extension workers in technology transfer and facilitators in providing farmers and fisherfolk access to Extension Services.
Under the Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act, the government is tasked with promoting science and technology as essential for national development and progress.
Under the measure, the government will also support the development of a National Extension Services System that will help accelerate the transformation of Philippine agriculture and fisheries to a technology-based industry.
The AF Extension Services are the training services, information, and support services to the agriculture and fisheries sectors to help them improve their technical, business, and social capabilities.
The Department of Agriculture Training Institute will lead, coordinate, and supervise the observance of the National Agriculture and Fisheries Extension Services Month. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF, GMA Integrated News
