DOJ declares ‘all-out war’ on violence against women

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on Monday openly declared an “all-out war” against all forms of violence, injustice, and discrimination against women, committing to go after perpetrators “using the full extent of law.”

This, as the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) was launched this morning, with the Department of Justice pledging to uphold and protect the rights of women by applying the rule of law.

“I call on everyone here today to empower victims of VAW by disseminating information on available support services and resources of the government aimed at empowering VAW survivors, reminding them that they are never alone in this noble fight,” Remulla said in a statement read by Justice Undersecretary Nicholas Felix Ty.

“To the perpetrators, we will run after every single one of you,” he added.

This year's campaign to end VAW will run from November 25 to December 12, in accordance with the State's commitment to address all forms of gender-based violence.

This is also in accordance with Republic Act 10398 declaring November 25 of every year as the “National Consciousness Day for the Elimination of VAWC” where government agencies are mandated to raise awareness in fighting VAW.

In a study released by the National Demographic and Health Survey conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority in 2022, data showed that 17.5% of Filipino women aged 15 to 49 have suffered from “any form of physical, sexual, and emotional violence” from their partners.
