AFP calls out ‘false, misleading’ online posts on supposed deployment to protect VP Sara

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Monday called out “false” and “misleading” online posts claiming that military personnel were deployed to protect Vice President Sara Duterte.

In a statement, the AFP said that there were no such operations and the videos shared online were taken from its previous activities.

“The posts circulating online, claiming that the AFP has initiated the mobilization of troops in connection with current events, are completely false and misleading. These claims come from unreliable sources and are not supported by any official AFP releases,” the military said.

According to the AFP, such “disinformation” causes unnecessary panic and confusion.

“The AFP remains focused on fulfilling its mandate with professionalism, dedication, and loyalty to the Constitution and the Chain of Command. Attempts to undermine our military and democratic institutions with these fraudulent posts will not be tolerated,” the Armed Forces said.

One of the “false” and “misleading” videos flashed texts, saying “AFP ng Davao, lumipad na papuntang Manila para bigyan proteksyon si Vice President Sara Duterte (AFP of Davao flew to Manila to give protection to Vice President Sara Duterte).”

Duterte on Saturday said she ordered President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and members of his family to be assassinated should an alleged plot against her succeed.

But she later clarified that her remark was not a threat but she only highlighted the alleged threat to her security. —Joviland Rita/RF, GMA Integrated News
