Imee Marcos arrives at VMMC amid Zuleika Lopez’ confinement

Senator Imee Marcos on Sunday afternoon arrived via helicopter at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City, where Office of the Vice President (OVP) chief of staff and undersecretary Zuleika Lopez has been confined.

Marcos, the elder sister of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., arrived at the hospital past 2 p.m., hours after Vice President Sara Duterte left to visit her children for the meantime.

She did not make any statements upon her arrival and was met by fellow senator Senators Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa who escorted her to Lopez' room.

Dela Rosa and Bong Go are currently accommodating Lopez in Duterte’s absence. The Vice President is expected to return to the hospital tonight.

On early Saturday morning, Duterte said she contracted an assassin to kill members of Imee's family---specifically Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and Speaker Martin Romualdez, if an alleged plot against her succeeds with her death.

Duterte delivered her tirade during a media conference at the House of Representatives where Lopez was detained after being cited in contempt.

Lopez was brought to the VMMC after she fell ill following the lower chamber’s order to transfer her to the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW).

Duterte later clarified that her “assassination” statement was not a threat, saying she only highlighted the alleged threat to her security.

Both the Presidential Security Command (PSC) and the National Security Council (NSC), however, consider the Vice President’s remark as a matter of national security. —RF, GMA Integrated News
