BI: 2 fugitives under Interpol notice nabbed at NAIA
Two fugitives included in the wanted list of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) were arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said Friday.
BI Commissioner Joel Viado said the passengers — a Korean and a Chinese — were nabbed separately at the NAIA Terminal 3 after prompting positive hits in the Immigration database of persons placed under Interpol red notice.
Identified as Li Su Bin, the Korean man was accosted before boarding his flight to Seoul. He was later allowed to depart after the BI informed its counterparts of his arrival. Li was arrested at the Incheon airport.
According to the Bi, an arrest warrant was issued against Li in Seoul over his alleged involvement in an investment scam. He is suspected to be a member of an investment fraud organization based in Laos that preyed on unsuspecting victims enticed to invest their money in crypto currencies and stocks.
Meanwhile, Chinese passenger Yao Bin was offloaded from his Malaysia-bound flight. He is currently detained at the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending his deportation.
The BI-Interpol said Yao is allegedly a member of a cybercrime syndicate that operated several gambling websites.
The said websites allegedly solicited from more than 260,000 Chinese customers who gambled on the results of international sports competitions and whose combined bets amounted to more than 2 billion yuan, or more than US$276 million.
Yao worked as promotions and customer service manager for the syndicate and earned more than 2 million yuan, or US$276,000 in salaries and commissions from the group’s illicit proceeds. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
