Delivery of remaining 9K ACMs for Eleksyon 2025 done within the week — Comelec
South Korean firm Miru Systems Inc. is expected to complete the delivery of 110,000 automated counting machines (ACMs) to be used for the 2025 May elections within the week, Commission on Elections chairperson George Erwin Garcia said Wednesday.
According to Garcia, around 9,000 ACMs are seen to arrive at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) warehouse in Biñan, Laguna by Friday, completing the required machines for the conduct of next year’s polls.
“Hindi matatapos ang linggong ito darating ang kabuuan ng 110,000 na machines sa ating warehouse… Kung sakali, mas maaga ng isang buwan at kalahati ang delivery nila sa ating Komisyon,” said Garcia.
(The ACMs are expected to be delivered within the week. This is earlier than the set deadline.)
“Natutuwa kami dahil mas maaga, mas mako-conduct namin ang hardware acceptance test (HAT), and at the same time, magkakaroon kami ng necessary testing na magagawa sa mga machines na ‘yan,” Garcia added.
(We welcome this because the earlier the ACMs are delivered, the earlier we can conduct the HAT and other tests.)
As of November 15, the poll body said it received at least 100,920 ACMs from Miru. This developed after the South Korean firm finished the manufacture of the machines last month.
In September, the Comelec said it was expecting Miru to finish the delivery of all ACMs by November—a month ahead of schedule as the firm earlier promised to complete the delivery of the machines in December.
Earlier this year, the poll body awarded to Miru the P17.99-billion contract for the procurement of a new automated election system for the 2025 elections. The contract covered ACMs and peripherals, including ballot boxes and laptops.
The contract is being questioned before the Supreme Court over alleged violations of the poll automation law. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
