9 reported dead amid Nika, Ofel, Pepito —NDRRMC

Nine people reportedly died amid the onslaught of tropical cyclones Nika, Ofel, and Pepito, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Wednesday.

NDRRMC’s 8 a.m. situational report indicated that none of the reported fatalities have been validated yet.

In Ambaguio, Nueva Vizcaya, seven people, including an 8-year-old child, were killed in a landslide amid Super Typhoon Pepito.

One person also reportedly died in Daet, Camarines Norte amid Pepito, but the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) later on said that the cause of death was vehicular accident and not cyclone-related.

Four individuals were also reported missing while 16 others were reported injured.

Over 3 million people or 820,000 families were also affected by the series of cyclones across 34 provinces.

There were 442,857 people also displaced due to the three tropical cyclones, and over 2,000 of them still remained in evacuation centers.

The storms also left a P1.5 billion damage to infrastructure and P8.6 million to agriculture.

Data from the Department of Agriculture on Tuesday showed that the damage to agriculture due to successive tropical cyclones — from Kristine to Ofel — has reached more than P10 billion.

Nika, Ofel, and Pepito also damaged 22,421 houses and affected 430 roads and 107 bridges nationwide, according to the NDRRMC.

Twenty-one cities and municipalities have also declared a state of calamity in the aftermath of the recent storms. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
