Marcos reiterates support for Ukraine as war marks 1,000th day

Marcos reiterated his support for Ukraine as Russia’s invasion of Kyiv marked its 1,000th day.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday reiterated his support for Ukraine as Russia’s invasion of Kyiv marked its 1,000th day.

“Yesterday marked the 1,000th day since the war in Ukraine began,” Marcos said on X (formerly Twitter).

Marcos recalled his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on June 3, where he reiterated the Philippines’ unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity.

“It is our hope that we will see comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine. Ukraine is our valued partner, and our relations continue to go from strength to strength,” he added.

Zelenskiy in a parliament session on Tuesday said Ukraine would not trade its sovereignty or relinquish its right to its territories, Reuters reported. He also ruled out the holding of new elections until peace is achieved.

"At this stage of the war, it is being decided who will prevail—whether us over the enemy, or the enemy over us Ukrainians... and Europeans, and everyone in the world who wants to live freely and not be subject to a dictator,” he said.

Zelenskiy set out a "resilience plan" for Ukraine as a domestic foil to the "victory plan" he pitched to Western allies earlier in the autumn. According to him, it was needed to force Russia to negotiate an end to the war in good faith.

"Unity is the first point of our internal Resilience Plan," he said.
