1 hurt, 1 missing due to Marce; over 21K families affected

One person was reported injured and one other missing during the onslaught of Typhoon Marce (international name: Yinxing), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Saturday.

Both the injured and missing persons are in Region 1 and are for validation, the NDRRMC said in its situation report.

Meanwhile, 21,273 families or 65,610 persons were affected by the effects of Marce.

Of this number, 8,319 families or 24,369 individuals stayed in 365 evacuation centers while 3,810 families or 12,498 persons were served outside the evacuation centers.

The affected families and individuals were in Regions 1 and 2 and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Rains brought about my Marce also caused three landslides in Region 2.

Forty-one road sections and 24 bridges were affected by the typhoon. Of this number, 11 roads are now passable.

Meanwhile, 57 cities and municipalities had their power supply disrupted during the onslaught of Marce. As of Saturday, six cities and municipalities had their power supply restored.

Communication lines were also affected in seven cities and municipalities in Regions 1 and 2. Only one area has had its communication lines restored as of Saturday.

A total of 273 houses in Regions 1 and 2 and CAR were damaged. Of this number, six were totally damaged.

The NDRRMC said 3,750 families required assistance costing P3,687,932.95. As of Saturday, 3,498 families have already been assisted in Regions 1, 2, and CAR.

Marce exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Friday.

Typhoon Marce has severely damaged Cagayan province after making two landfalls.

Residents in the province had to endure the downpour and strong winds brought by the tropical cyclone.

Even the ceiling of the newly built Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office collapsed in Sta. Ana town, site of the first landfall.

Many homes lost roofs, the ceiling of a commercial center fell, roads were strewn with toppled trees and electric posts, a steel sheet hung on a post.

According to officials, 242.6 millimeters (0.80 ft) of rain were dumped by Marce in a 24-hour window. —KG, GMA Integrated News
