Safe conduct pass to be issued to amnesty applicants with arrest warrants — NAC
The National Amnesty Commission (NAC) on Friday said it will issue a “safe conduct pass” to amnesty applicants with arrest warrants so they will be able to visit its offices.
At a press briefing, NAC chairperson Leah Tanodra-Armamento said the move was approved by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
“The President approved our request that the NAC be given the authority to issue safe conduct pass because our applicants, most of them have warrants of arrest and they cannot go to our offices to file their applications,” she said.
“So our game plan is to go to them, but sometimes we cannot access them because they are in the mountains, they are in hiding,” she added.
With the issuance of safe conduct pass, Armamento said the NAC will be able to perform its task effectively.
As of September, Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity of the Philippines (PAPRU) Secretary Carlito Galvez said 831 ex-rebels have filed their applications for amnesty so far.
Aside from the safe conduct pass, Armamento said Marcos also approved the creation of 10 more local amnesty boards for a more accessible application. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
