Marcos to skip APEC Summit
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. will not attend this year's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.
This was announced by the Presidential Communications Office on Thursday. The PCO said Marcos has appointed acting Trade and Industry Secretary Ma. Cristina Aldeguer-Roque as Special Envoy to the APEC Economic Leaders' Week.
PCO Acting Secretary Cesar Chavez said Marcos decided not to participate in the economic summit as he wants to prioritize domestic concerns, including government responses to calamities.
The APEC Leaders' Week is scheduled on November 10 to 16 in Lima, Peru.
According to its website, APEC 2024 is about consolidating a new approach to the forum's economic cooperation agenda amidst the unprecedented challenges of today.
As regional economic integration continues to strengthen, APEC 2024 aims to position policies and initiatives through the prism of its inclusive growth strategy.
