DepEd: No corruption under Angara's leadership
The Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday condemned corrupt practices in its procurement activities, committing that there will be transparency with Secretary Sonny Angara at the helm of the agency.
In an advisory, DepEd assured that it adheres to Republic Act 9184 or the Government Procurement Reform Act "to ensure equal opportunity for all qualified bidders at all levels," from its central office down to public schools nationwide.
"Walang korapsyon sa pamumuno ni Secretary Sonny Angara [There is no corruption under the leadership of Secretary Sonny Angara]. The Department of Education is committed to fair and transparent procurement processes," the agency said.
The DepEd did not specify the context for the release of such an advisory, but warned that any individual or entity found guilty of corrupt practices "will face severe consequences, including blacklisting and criminal charges."
It also encouraged the public to anonymously report any suspicious activity at: walangkorapsyon@deped.gov.ph
Angara officially assumed the leadership of the Education Department in July this year, following the resignation of his predecessor, Vice President Sara Duterte.
The House good government and public accountability committee is currently conducting a motu proprio inquiry regarding DepEd's failure to deliver computer units in good condition and other issues on the agency's budget utilization during Duterte's term. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
