2025 Philippine holidays released; EDSA People Power, a special working day

Malacañang on Thursday released the list of regular and special non-working holidays for the year 2025.

The list of regular holidays provided under Proclamation No. 727 are the following:

  • January 1 - New Year’s Day
  • April 9 - Araw ng Kagitingan
  • April 17 - Maundy Thursday
  • April 18 - Good Friday
  • May 1 - Labor Day
  • June 12 - Independence Day
  • August 25 - National Heroes Day (Last Monday of August)
  • November 30 - Bonifacio Day
  • December 25 - Christmas Day
  • December 30 - Rizal Day

On the other hand, the following dates were declared as special non-working days:

  • January 29 - Chinese New Year
  • April 19 - Black Saturday
  • August 21 - Ninoy Aquino Day
  • October 31 - All Saints' Day Eve
  • November 1 - All Saints’ Day

  • December 24 - Christmas Eve

Meanwhile, the EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary on February 25, Tuesday, was declared a special working day.

Last year, the commemoration of the event that ended the decades-long rule of Marcos' father, the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., was not included in the list because it fell on a Sunday.

In 2023, February 24 was declared a special non-working holiday. In Proclamation No. 167, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. moved the February 25 holiday a day earlier "to enable our countrymen to avail of the benefits of a longer weekend pursuant to the principle of holiday economics... provided that the historical significance of the EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary is maintained."

On the other hand, separate proclamations declaring national holidays for the observance of Eidul Fitr and Eidul Adha will be issued after the approximate dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar (Hijra) or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is applicable.

The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos will recommend to the President the actual dates on which the holidays will fall.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
