Marcos, VP Sara trust ratings dip in latest OCTA survey
The latest survey results from OCTA Research showed a dip in the trust and performance ratings of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte.
Marcos' numbers "slightly declined" while Duterte had a "significant drop," in the survey that covered the third quarter of 2024.
The results of the non-commissioned survey, which were released on Thursday, noted that approximately 69% of adult Filipinos trust Marcos----two percentage points lower from the 71% recorded in the second quarter of the year.
OCTA said that the decline fell within the margin of error, and that the President’s trust ratings “have remained statistically unchanged” since the second quarter.
Meanwhile, Duterte’s trust ratings plummeted by six percentage points from 65% to 59%.
“This significant drop raises concerns, particularly as her distrust rating now stands at 14%, with 27% of respondents undecided. This downward trajectory in trust ratings is stark compared to March 2023, when she enjoyed an impressive trust level of 87%,” OCTA said.
“Such fluctuations indicate a shifting sentiment among the electorate and the potential impact of current political dynamics,” it added.
'Steady decrease'
As to performance, the survey results showed that 66% of adult Filipinos express satisfaction with Marcos’ performance, while 12% are dissatisfied, and 23% remain undecided.
Around 68% of adult Filipinos were satisfied with the President’s performance in the previous quarter.
Duterte’s performance rating, on the other hand, also significantly declined by eight percentage points from 60% to 52%.
Fifteen percent of the respondents are also dissatisfied with her performance, while 33% remain undecided, which OCTA explained may reveal “a growing uncertainty among the electorate.”
“It is crucial to highlight that Vice President Duterte-Carpio's ratings have steadily decreased for over two straight quarters in 2024,” the research group said.
Marcos received his highest trust rating in Balanced Luzon at 78%, and lowest in Mindanao at 50%. Respondents in Balanced Luzon were also most satisfied with his performance at 74%, as compared to 48% in Mindanao.
Duterte’s highest trust rating was in Mindanao at 95%, and lowest in Balanced Luzon at 43%. Her performance rating was also steady at 90% in Mindanao but poor in Balanced Luzon at 37% and in the National Capital Region at 38%.
Opposites
By socio-economic class, Marcos received his highest trust and performance ratings from respondents belonging to Classes ABC at 73% and 69%, respectively, while his lowest ratings were from Class E at 67% and 64%.
Completely opposite to the President was the Vice President’s highest trust and performance ratings from respondents belonging to Class E at 73% and 63%, respectively. Her lowest ratings were recorded from Classes ABC at 52% and 50%.
The OCTA survey was conducted from September 4 to 7, 2024, using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults nationwide. It has a ±3% margin of error at a 95% confidence level.
For the subnational estimates for the geographic areas, Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao have a ±6% margin of error at a 95% confidence level.
