Reported death toll due to Kristine, Leon now 150 —NDRRMC
The reported death toll due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine and Super Typhoon Leon increased to 150, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Thursday.
In its 8 a.m. report, the NDRRMC also said that 29 people were reported missing and 115 were reported injured.
Kristine and Leon have affected 7,494,023 people or 1,892,226 families in 17 regions. Most of them were reported in Bicol with 2,684,154 affected persons, followed by Central Luzon with 1,092,750 and Calabarzon with 752,793.
Of the total affected population, 330,649 people or 85,536 families were staying inside evacuation centers while 429,483 individuals or 87,617 families were taking shelter in other places.
Floods and landslides were reported in some affected areas, according to the NDRRMC.
A total of 150,511 houses were damaged —139,571 partially and 10,940 totally.
Damage to infrastructure worth P6,390,160,298 and to agriculture worth P2,867,718,759 were monitored. For irrigation facilities, P32,620,000 worth of damage was also reported.
Problems in power supply, water supply, and communication line services were experienced in some affected areas.
Operations in 96 seaports were suspended which stranded 2,695 passengers, 728 rolling cargoes, 92 vessels, and six motor bancas. Three airports also suspended operations due to the threat of the weather disturbances.
Classes in 1,167 areas and work schedules in 782 areas were suspended.
The NDRRMC said state of calamity was declared in the following areas:
- Dagupan City
- Ilagan and Roxas in Isabela
- Cavite Province
- Batangas Province
- Quezon Province
- Santa Cruz, San Pedro, Victoria, Los Baños, Biñan, Calamba, Cabuyao, Majayjay, Santa Rosa, and Paete in Laguna
- Albay Province
- Bulan, Irosin, Juban, Donsol, Castilla, and Matnog in Sorsogon
- Camarines Sur Province
- Catanduanes Province
- Camarines Norte Province
- Naga City
- Calbayog in Samar
- Jipapad, Arteche, San Policarpo, Oras, Maslog, Dolores, Can-avid, Taft, Sulat, San Julian, Borongan, and Maydolong in Eastern Samar
- Magpet in Cotabato
- Barangays Kiling and San Juan in Alfonso Lista (Potia), Ifugao
- Quezon City
Assistance worth P895,658,723 has been provided to the victims so far, according to the NDRRMC.
Kristine entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on October 21 and made a landfall over Divilacan, Isabela on October 24. It exited PAR on October 25.
Super Typhoon Leon
Meanwhile, violent weather conditions continue over extreme Northern Luzon as Super Typhoon Leon passes close to Batanes, according to PAGASA.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 5 is hoisted over the following areas:
- The northern and eastern portions of Batanes (Itbayat, Basco)
- TCWS No. 4 is hoisted over the following areas:
- The rest of Batanes
TCWS No. 3 is hoisted over the following areas:
- The northern portion of Babuyan Islands (Babuyan Is., Calayan Is.)
TCWS No. 2 is hoisted over the following areas:
- The rest of Babuyan Islands
- Mainland Cagayan
- The northern portion of Isabela (San Pablo, Maconacon, Divilacan, Palanan)
- Apayao
- Ilocos Norte
TCWS No. 1 is hoisted over the following areas:
- The rest of Isabela
- Quirino

In its 5 a.m. bulletin on Thursday, state weather bureau PAGASA said Leon was located 100 kilometers east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes packing maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 240 kph.
