PNP on heightened alert but no threats monitored for Undas 2024

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is now on heightened security alert in preparation for the country's observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

“Effective kahapon po ay naka-heightened alert na po ang ating mga area police command pati na rin po 'yung ating police regional offices bilang bahagi po ng ating security plan para po sa coverage ng Undas,” PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo said in a press briefing Wednesday.

(Effective yesterday, our area police commands and our police regional offices are on heightened alert as part of our security plan for the coverage of Undas.)

In light of the ongoing response to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine’s impact and Super Typhoon Leon’s threat, Fajardo said more police personnel will be deployed for Undas totalling to 21,000.

Regional directors have the discretion to increase the number of deployments if needed, according to Fajardo.

As early as Monday, Fajardo said some police personnel had already started their tasks as many people were expected to visit their department loved ones at cemeteries ahead of Undas to avoid huge crowds.

“Yung atin pong police assistance desks ay naka-establish na rin po sa mga sementeryo, public transportation hubs including seaports and airports po,” she said.

(Our police assistance desks have also been established in cemeteries, public transportation hubs including seaports and airports.)

“Kasama na po sa deployment na po na 'yan 'yung atin pong mga K9 to help po sa pagse-secure ng mga bagahe at siyempre matulungan po 'yung management ng transport terminals,” she added.

(Our K9s are already included in the deployment to help secure the baggage and of course the management of the transport terminals.)

So far, the PNP has not monitored any security threat in connection with the observance of Undas.

“Sa ngayon po, wala po tayong namo-monitor na credible at seryosong banta po para po sa pag-observe natin ng Undas,” Fajardo said.

(Right now, we are not monitoring anything credible and serious threat in connection with the observance of Undas.)

“Pero gaya nga ng ating laging sinasabi we are maintaining our security stance and measures po at 'yun pong ating coordination sa ibang security forces to ensure po na hindi po tayo malusutan ng anumang banta sa seguridad,” she added.

(But as we always say, we are maintaining our security stance and measures as well as our coordination with other security forces to ensure that we do not overlook any security threat.) —AOL, GMA Integrated News
