PNP: 18,000 cops to be deployed for Undas 2024
A total of 18,000 police personnel will be deployed to secure the observation of Undas or All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day this year, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Monday.
“This year po around 18,000 plus po ang ide-deploy po natin na mga PNP personnel, to be exact nasa 18,802,” PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo said at a press briefing.
(This year we will deploy around over 18,000 PNP personnel, to be exact 18,802.)
“Kasama na po sa ide-deploy po dyan yung mga ilalagay natin sa police assistance desks sa ating memorial parks, sementeryo, pati na rin po sa transport terminals to make sure na maaalalayan natin yung mga kababayan natin na ine-expect na po bibiyahe,” she added.
(Some of them will be deployed in police assistance desks at our memorial parks, cemeteries, and transport terminals to make sure that we can assist our countrymen who are expected to travel.)
In some areas affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, Fajardo said the PNP will deploy more personnel for Undas because many of the local police officers there are already exhausted in ongoing retrieval and relief operations.
“Gaya nga ng sabi ng ating Chief PNP, magmula noong binagyo po hanggang ngayon po, ongoing yung retrieval and relief operations ay pagod na rin po yung pulis natin sa mga affected,” Fajardo said.
(As our Chief PNP said, our police are already tired from the ongoing retrieval and relief operations since the typhoon.
“That is precisely the reason kung bakit pinapa-mobilize na rin niya yung ating reserve force (That is precisely the reason why he is mobilizing our reserve force),” she added.
Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Monday said it is ready for the influx of passengers for the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day this week.
DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista, the agency and its attached offices made all the necessary preparations in anticipation of the increased volume of travelers at airports, seaports, and bus terminals.
“Ang Department of Transportation together with the other attached agencies – ang CAAP (Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines), and PPA (Philippine Ports Authority), MIAA (Manila International Airport Authority), and Cebu International Airport – we are getting ready for the Undas Biyahe,” Bautista said during the briefing.
“Every year we have this Oplan Biyaheng Ayos para sa ating mga mananakay. So, ready tayo. Katulong din natin diyan ang Philippine Coast Guard,” he added.
