Over P15.2M infra, P9.7M agri damage reported so far due to Kristine

Reported damage to infrastructure due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine stands at over P15.2 million while damage to agriculture is at P9.7 million, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Friday.

The NDRRMC said most of the damage came from the Bicol region at 15,000,000, according to the NDRRMC.

For casualties, the NDRRMC said 13 people were reported dead including 11 in Bicol and one each in Central Luzon and Calabarzon. 

Only the fatality in Calabarzon has been validated, according to the NDRRMC. The victim died after falling into a canal in San Andres, Quezon on Tuesday.

Seven persons were also reported missing and five were reported injured due to Kristine, the NDRRMC said.

But based on the 3 a.m. data from the Police Regional Office 5 (PRO-5), there were already 26 reported fatalities in Bicol alone due to Kristine.

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said 2,656,446 people or 569,524 families were affected by Kristine.

Among the affected regions are Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, Caraga, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Most of the affected individuals were reported in Bicol with 1,860,625, followed by BARMM with 435,135 and Central Luzon with 101,444.

Of the total affected population, the NDRRMC said 239,200 people or 64,447 families were staying in evacuation centers while 80,497 individuals or 19,961 families were taking shelter in other places.

Floods, landslides, fallen trees, maritime incidents, and a vehicular accident were reported amid Kristine's onslaught. Some roads and bridges became impassable.

A total of 1,402 houses were damaged in some affected regions—1,214 partially and 188 totally.

Power outages, water supply problems, and communication line issues were experienced in some affected areas.

The NDRRMC said 90 seaports and two airports suspended trips due to the threat of Kristine. At seaports, 7,510 passengers, 1,788 rolling cargoes, 97 vessels, and 17 motorbancas were stranded.

Classes in 1,167 areas and work schedules in 770 areas were also suspended.

A state of calamity was declared in Tagkawayan, Quezon; the entire province of Albay; Bulan, Sorsogon; and Magpet, Cotabato.

Assistance worth P60,529,295 has been provided to the victims of Kristine so far, according to the NDRRMC.
