Over 2M people affected by Kristine —NDRRMC


NDRRMC said that a total of 2,077,643 people or 431,738 families in the country were affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine

A total of 2,077,643 people or 431,738 families in the country were affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Thursday.

In its 8 a.m. report, the NDRRMC said the affected population are Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Caraga, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and Cordillera Administrative Region.

Most of the affected individuals were reported in Bicol with 1,669,507, followed by BARMM with 351,913.

Of the total affected population, 163,184 people or 43,463 families were staying in evacuation centers while 32,877 people or 8,003 families were taking shelter in other places.

The NDRRMC said there were seven reported deaths, seven reported missing, and four reported injured in Ilocos Region, Calabarzon, and Bicol due to Kristine but these casualties are still being validated.

However, numbers from the Police Regional Office 5 showed that there were already 20 reported fatalities in Bicol alone.

A total of 1,007 houses were damaged in the affected regions, 916 partially and 92 totally. For infrastructure, P250,000 worth of facilities were also damaged.

Power outages, water supply problems, and communication line issues were also experienced, according to the NDRRMC.

Due to the impact of Kristine, 299 road sections and 41 bridges were affected. A total of 86 seaports and two airports suspended their operations.

A total of 5,980 passengers, 1,351 rolling cargoes, 106 vessels, and 12 motorbancas were stranded.

Classes in 994 areas and work schedules in 571 areas were suspended.

State of calamity was declared in the entire province of Albay as well as in Tagkawayan, Quezon due to the effects of Kristine.

Assistance worth P21,516,422 have been provided to the victims so far, according to the NDRRMC.

According to PAGASA’s 8 a.m. bulletin, Kristine was last spotted in the vicinity of Aguinaldo, Ifugao packing maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph.
