Garma: Ex-President Duterte called after testimony on cash for killings
Former President Rodrigo Duterte called retired Police Colonel Royina Garma after her testimony before the House QuadComm—the four committees looking into the killings in the war on drugs during his administration.
Garma made the disclosure while she was being questioned during the continuation of the joint congressional inquiry by ACT Teachers party-list Rep. France Castro, the House Deputy Minority Leader.
She said Duterte during the phone call explained why he wanted a police officer belonging to the Iglesia Ni Cristo to be in charge of the nationwide implementation of the campaign against drugs.
"Sabi po niya mapagkakatiwalaan sa pera ang Iglesia Ni Cristo," Garma said.
(He said an Iglesia Ni Cristo member may be trusted with money.)
Garma in an affidavit she read before the QuadComm weeks ago said Duterte in May 2016 had called to tell her to look for a police officer who is a member of the Iglesia ni Cristo.
The officer would be in charge of the nationwide implementation of the Davao model which rewarded with cash the killing of drug personalities.
Garma said the Duterte did not try to stop her from testifying on what she knows about the drug war killings during the Duterte administration. —NB, GMA Integrated News
