Matthew Manotoc 'shocked' by VP Sara dragging mom Imee Marcos in latest tirade

Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc on Monday lamented the latest tirade hurled by Vice President Sara Duterte against the Marcoses, which included a supposed confrontation with his mother, Senator Imee Marcos.

In a Facebook post, Manotoc said he was "shocked" that Senator Marcos was "included" in the recent fiery statements of the Vice President, considering that his mother "has been a loyal friend and supporter to Sara for many years."

Manotoc was referring to Duterte's remarks wherein she supposedly told Senator Marcos that she would personally dig up the body of former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and throw it into the West Philippine Sea (WPS) if attacks against her do not stop.

"In my few interactions with VP Sara, she was always friendly and professional. It’s very disheartening to see her making things personal. As  many say, this is just politics," Manotoc's post read.

"I hope VP Sara finds peace and we wish her well," he ended.

GMA News Online sought the comment of the Vice President on Manotoc's statement, but she has yet to respond as of posting time.

Manotoc is the first member of the Marcos family to respond to Duterte's latest criticisms.

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has yet to address the tirades raised against him by his running-mate in the 2022 national elections.

During a sit-down press conference last Friday, Duterte accused Marcos, her running-mate in the 2022 elections, of not knowing how to rule a country.

The press conference was held amid the Marcos-allied House of Representatives' investigation into Duterte's use of confidential and intelligence funds in the previous years, and the Quad Committee's probe into alleged extrajudicial killings during the administration of her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte.  —RF, GMA Integrated News
