LOOK: New facilities, vehicles for VP Sara security at Camp Aguinaldo

Vice President Sara Duterte attended the inauguration of the new facilities and vehicles for the Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG) at Camp Emilio Aguinaldo last week.

Photos posted on Duterte’s official Facebook page on Thursday showed that the Vice President led the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new office of VPSPG which will also serve as their temporary residence.

Duterte, along with Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) personnel, also joined a priest who blessed the area and sprinkled holy water on the new vehicles.

“Naging matagumpay ito dahil sa pagtutulungan ng Armed Forces of the Philippines at Office of the Vice President upang magkaroon sila ng maayos na tanggapan at pansamantalang tirahan,” she said in the caption of the post.

(This came into fruition because of the cooperation of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Office of the Vice President so that the VPSPG can have a proper office and temporary residence.)

“Malaki ang ginagampanang trabaho ng Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group upang siguraduhing ligtas tayo at maisayos natin ang ating ginagampanang tungkulin. Maraming salamat VPSPG. Mabuhay po kayo!”

(The VPSPG has a big job to ensure that we are safe and that we can accomplish our role. Thank you, VPSPG.)

AFP spokesperson Colonel Francel Padilla said in August that the AFP dedicated over 400 personnel for the security of Duterte.

According to the AFP official, the VPSPG has been placed under the Presidential Security Command (PSC), and the deployment would depend on Security Task Action Group (STAG) commanders.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Rommel Marbil earlier said 75 cops were removed from Duterte’s security detail as their organization arranged their deployment.

Based on the assessment of the PSC, Marbil said they do not see any threats against Duterte. He also stressed that there was no political pressure regarding the move.

Duterte, for her part, called the reduction of police personnel in her security details as a case of political harassment, which Marbil denied. — Giselle Ombay/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
