PCO's Chavez cites need to amplify climate change talks in ASEAN

Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Acting Secretary Cesar Chavez on Monday underscored the need to amplify the message of the risks being brought by climate change.

In his message read by PCO Senior Undersecretary Emerald Ridao during the Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction being held in Manila, Chavez said the country's ASEAN neighbors are similarly exposed to these risks and impacts.

''This is why President Marcos states that climate change is the biggest threat to the collective future of ASEAN and the world. He pointed out that our region is one of the most vulnerable to climate change, and that our resilience will continue to be tested by this perennial challenge,'' Chavez said.

''We must amplify this message, as it represents real risks and dangers to lives and realities on the ground,'' he added.

Chavez also highlighted that the ''the media has the power to influence the world in unimaginable ways.''

''This puts the spotlight on your crucial role in covering this landmark regional conference for disaster management,'' Chavez said.

In this event, Chavez said the President would lead exchanges of experience, sharing of innovative solutions, and discussions of best practices in disaster risk reduction.

''He will discuss the steps we have taken, the progress we have made, and the work which must be done,'' Chavez said. —RF, GMA Integrated News
