Jonvic Remulla to PNP: Make police organization better
Newly-appointed Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla on Monday ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) to make the organization better.
“I gave them a general directive of what we need to do in the next three years especially with capital outlay, response time, relations with local government units and the chiefs of the police, investments, and making the police force better,” Remulla said in a press briefing right after his first command conference in Camp Crame.
“I was very happy with the output of today's meeting. We aim to uplift the morale and uplift the professionalism of this institution. And we aim to create better community relations, especially between the local chief executives and the PNP,” he added.
While he already has a template for his planned structural reform in the PNP, Remulla said it is “a long-term study.”
Asked if the crackdown on Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) is among his focus as a newly-installed official, Remulla said that these establishments will start to close on December 15 up to December 31.
“There are no exceptions to this,” he said.
Last week, Remulla officially assumed the leadership of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) after Benhur Abalos resigned from post to run for Senate in the 2025 elections.
Remulla earlier said he wants to address some issues in the structure of the PNP and remove the “politics” and “palakasan” system in the organization.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
